What Business Needs to Know About the New U.S. Cybersecurity Strategy

Abstract:

As cyberspace and cyber considerations move from low politics to high politics, cybersecurity in the private sector has become a matter of national concern. On March 2, 2023, the Biden administration published its National Cybersecurity Strategy in response to the growing threat of cyber attacks. This strategy, which aims to better regulate cybersecurity measures across the private sector, outlines a set of key priorities and recommendations for improving cybersecurity across government agencies and sectors of critical infrastructure. This article provides an analysis of this new cybersecurity strategy and its implications for businesses operating in today's interconnected and rapidly evolving digital landscape. In particular, the article outlines the strategy’s focus on risk management, collaboration between public and private sectors, and the need for an individualized and integrated approach to cybersecurity. As the private sector plays such a significant role in ensuring the security and resilience of the digital ecosystem, businesses themselves must expect to play a key role in ensuring their security, both through their own cybersecurity practices and through open collaboration with government agencies.
