Data and public-private partnerships are the future of cybersecurity

Abstract:

This World Economic Forum article discusses the importance of data protection and public-private cooperation to enhance cybersecurity. The article starts off by highlighting that the scale and sophistication of cyber threats have been increasing for the last few years. The World Economic Forum suggests that the Security teams of the organizations contend with a lot and have immense responsibility, and CISOs (Chief Information Security Officers) are now paramount to the entire organization. Thus, collaboration among the board members is crucial, and powerful lever organizations have to gain insights and take action by using all of their data from across IT systems, apps, and infrastructure. This will allow organizations to protect, detect, and respond swiftly to threats and disruption. In order to encourage more private organizations to prioritize cybersecurity, the World Economic Forum strongly recommends the facilitation of public-private partnerships, such as the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Joint Cyber Defense Collaborative (JCDC), which is driving collective action in the cybersecurity community. The JCDC is a place for defenders from the public and private sectors that are united by common goals to proactively gather, analyze and share actionable cyber risk information. While multiple initiatives are taking place by the government for the last few years, this article also encourages international cooperation facilitated by organizations that are powerful enough to bring various states and stakeholders together to provide the opportunity to share knowledge and forge long-term commitments and global collaboration across business, civil society and government in pursuit of a shared goal.
