CyberSecurity considerations for an interconnected self-driving car system of systems

Abstract:

As self-driving cars become more prominent, there are inherent security risks that arise. This is a result of the fact that self-driving cars need to be able to communicate with each other in order to be able to safely and effectively operate. This paper presents an intrusion detection system (IDS) which seeks to mitigate and counteract the impacts of a cyber-attack autonomous vehicle’s computer system. The goal of IDS is to “act as a catch-all that prevents a prospective calamity that bypasses, compromises or simply evades the capabilities of other cybersecurity system elements.”
