Automated city shuttles: Mapping the key challenges in cybersecurity, privacy and standards to future developments

Abstract:

Presently, “Automated City Shuttles (ACSs) aim to shape the future public transportation and provide more efficient and accessible mobility in smart cities.” ACS platforms utilize numerous sensors, exchanged data between vehicles, and intelligent transport systems in order to “achieve real time assimilation with of its surroundings.” As a result of the integration of these various systems, new cybersecurity and privacy threats are introduced. This paper conducts an analysis addressing the various security threats and privacy concerns from both a legal and technical perspective. Additionally, such presents a debate regarding the tradeoffs between the benefits of ACS and security vulnerabilities.
