When Trust Fades, Facebook Is No Longer a Friend: Shifting Privatisation Dynamics in the Context of Cybersecurity as a Result of Disinformation, Populism and Political Uncertainty
There has been a privatization of internal security and of justic and home affairs (JHA). Political instability makes it harder to keep up effective collaboration between government and the private sector with regards to cybersecurity. The authors used the lens of Regulatory Capitalism when doing the case study with Facebook, showing how there has been less and less trust of privatization from the public and the state. Overall, there are often different priorities between the private and public sectors, leading them to address issues of disinformation in different ways and changing their relationship with each other.
