In May 2017, over 200k computers in 150 companies were affected by the WannaCry ransomware attack. FedEx, Nissan, Honda, and the UK NHS were among the notable victims of the attack meaning some critical systems and people’s physical health were affected by a breach in cybersecurity. This attack was ended and neutralized by a security researcher who found a” kill switch” but not before it was too late and people’s machines were already infected and so they had to pay a ransom. This attack occurred because an attack by the NSA got used for nefarious purposes once the NSA itself was compromised.
