UK trade unions hit by spate of cyber attacks

Abstract:

Two massive trade unions, Aslef, and the Communications Workers Union (CWC), in the UK have been targeted by cyber attacks, where targeted IT systems are down. Their website traffic have also been compromised. The systems that are currently down include union member data, and so the current hypothesized motivation is that they were trying to get sensitive data. An Aslef Executive mentioned that no ransom was asked. On the other hand, the CWC cyber attackers did demand a ransom, which the union has refused to pay.
