Threats on the Horizon: Understanding Security Threats in the Era of Cyber-physical Systems

Abstract:

There has been an increase in the amount of physical things connected to the Internet. Things like electric grids have become targets for cyberattacks. This research looks at key threats to cyber physical systems (CPS). The growth of cyber physical systems has increased the risk of an attack. Things like building control, medical devices, and smart grid are considered CPS. CPS device are at risk, especially because of the sue of default passwords and device misconfigurations. Things to help with this include installing a VPN. Human error is unfortunately another large risk factor. The research shows a need for reevaluation of the way people think about cybersecurity.
