The article reviews the report that the World Economic Forum has released in their 53rd annual meeting in discussion of governing the metaverse. Smith first reviews WEF’s key considerations in metaverse government: human-first, child safety, informed consent, interoperability, data, context, and multidimensional issue of interoperability. Smith however claims that WEF’s principles have contradictions and does not contain enough trade-off analysis. In discussion of design principles policymakers should consider, Smith highlights that they should view metaverse as a dynamic ecosystem.
