AI will lead to an increase in volume, level of sophistication, and impact of cyber attacks in the next coming years. However, how much AI allows attackers to improve their attacks will depend on the skill of the actors themselves. AI will enable less skilled hackers such as cyber criminals and hacktivists to have significantly more powerful attacks that cause greater harm than previously. AI will specifically allow more sophistication in phishing and password attacks as well as common social engineering techniques. Highly capable state actors will also see an increase in attack sophistication but to a much smaller extent.
