Statement on Inclusive and Sustainable Artificial Intelligence for People and the Planet (Paris AI joint declaration)

Abstract:

Following the AI Action Summit, hosted in Paris and co-chaired by France and India on 10 and 11 February 2025, 62 countries, the African Union Commission, and the European Union signed a joint statement on Inclusive and Sustainable Artificial Intelligence for People and the Planet (Paris AI joint declaration). The statement outlined priorities to reduce digital divides and to ensure AI that is open, inclusive, ethical, safe, and sustainable. Signatories included France, Germany, China, India, Japan, South Korea, and other countries from Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas. However, the United States and the United Kingdom did not join the statement. U.S. Vice President JD Vance criticized excessive regulation of AI during his opening remarks. The UK, despite hosting the world’s first AI Safety Summit in 2023, opted not to sign the declaration.
