Presidential Executive Order on Strengthening the Cybersecurity of Federal Networks and Critical Infrastructure

Abstract:

This executive order is meant to help strengthen US Cybersecurity; specifically Federal Networks and Critical Infrastructure. This gives the President the power to hold executive department and agency heads accountable for cybersecurity and to “manage cybersecurity risk as an executive branch enterprise.” The organizations covered by this document are required to regularly assess their cybersecurity risk management. They are also encouraged to try to use the same equipment and software as other departments when it is possible.
This order also requires agency heads to work towards more secure critical infrastructure. They are required to find ways to support critical infrastructure cybersecurity and find how those methods could be used to support critical infrastructure. They are required to submit annual reports to the President about their findings and recommendations.
