A New, More Aggressive U.S. Cybersecurity Policy Complements Traditional Methods

Abstract:

United States policy on offense cyber operations has become more aggressive under the current administration, at least nominally. Previous directives required presidential authorization, but current directives are believed to provide more authority to U.S. Cyber Command, signaling that cyberspace is increasingly within the military domain. However, cyberspace remains an untested and poorly regulated space. The U.S.’s greater connectivity to and reliance on cyberspace make it a more exposed target than other nations, further complicating (while also necessitating) cyber operations, offensive and defensive.
