National Cyber Strategy of the United States of America

Abstract:

This report highlights the United States’ cyber strategy under the presidency of Donald Trump. The plan identifies four “pillars” of which to focus on; namely protecting the American people, homeland, and way of life, promoting American prosperity, preserving peace through strength, and advancing the American influence. Under each pillar there are identified objectives with “priority actions” to take that contribute to the success of the respective objective.
The first pillar, protecting the American people, homeland, and the American way of life includes objectives to secure federal networks, information, and critical infrastructure, as well as combating cybercrime in combination with improved incident reporting. Each of these objectives has a combination of policy and physical response priority actions. The second pillar of focus, promoting American prosperity, includes objectives to foster a vibrant and resilient digital economy, foster and protect United States ingenuity, and develop a superior cybersecurity workforce. The third pillar, preserving peace through strength, aims to enhance cyber stability through norms of responsible state behavior as well as attribute and deter unacceptable behavior in the cyberspace. The final pillar, advance American Influence, focuses on promoting an open, interoperable, reliable, and secure internet and building international cyber capacity.
