More Cybersecurity Cooperation between Singapore, US in Public, Defence and Financial Sectors

Abstract:

Singapore and the United States have agreed to expand their cooperation on cybersecurity in the public, defence, and financial sectors. In the public sector, the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA) and the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which builds on the existing 2016 agreement. The expanded cooperation will include sharing information on cyber threats, conducting joint exercises to test preparedness, and identifying areas for improvement. In the defence sector, Singapore’s Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and the US’ Department of Defense also signed an MOU “on cyberspace cooperation, aimed at institutionalising cyber cooperation between both defence establishments”. The focus will be on operational cooperation and regional capacity-building. In the financial sector, a third MoU was signed between Singapore’s Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and the US’ Department of the Treasury to strengthen cooperation in regulation, incident management, and intelligence sharing.
