Microsoft lets generative AI loose on cybersecurity

Abstract:

Microsoft has launched Security Copilot in order to bring AI to cyber-security. Security Copilot (similar in name to GitHub Copilot) is a tool that uses generative AI models to summarize and make sense of cyber threats, using a training model that “incorporates a growing set of security-specific skills”. The system will use Microsoft’s existing cybersecurity product portfolio and OpenAI’s GPT-4, a company that Microsoft has invested in, to correlate data on attacks, and prioritize security incidents. Microsoft’s announcement made no mention of how GPT-4 was utilized in the system, but emphasized the model was not trained on customer data, raising an interesting IP question.
