Internet Security Liberated via Software Defined Exchanges

Abstract:

By using network function virtualization alongside software defined networking, network traffic that is cheap, customizable, and scalable can be achieved. This paper contends that anyone who uses the internet (user, organization, autonomous system) can choose how network traffic is routed and processed which deviates from the current system of IP routing. Of note, this could potentially make internet-based communication hard to intercept or block via firewall. The paper then covers the software-defined exchange architecture to allow such a system, as well as a potential implementation.
