Ethics and Privacy in AI and Big Data

Abstract:

As artificial intelligence and big data, along with their respective applications, garner mass media attention, many have begun to question the morality of such technologies, particularly regarding individuals’ privacy. These concerns are valid and deserve thorough consideration when deciding how these technologies will be used and innovated moving forward. In order to properly consider the impacts of these technologies, it is necessary to consider the many stakeholders – particularly society at large – and ensure that the implementation and development of these technologies produces a net benefit to society. Using the framework of responsible research and innovation (RRI), these technologies can be exhaustively considered in their social impacts, use cases, and long-term sustainability.
