Election Cybersecurity Infrastructure

Abstract:

In a state-sponsored disinformation campaign, Russia influenced voter’s opinion in the US, pushing them towards candidates they believed would best serve their interests. Additionally, they exploited cybersecurity vulnerabilities in voter databases, electoral systems, and email servers. The author repeatedly assert that although these campaigns were successfully carried out before the 2016 presidential election, the election results are in fact legitimate. Due to this campaign, election security bills have been detailed in Congress, as well as other policy actions that can be implimented to help solve the issue of possible election interfernce. This includes the regulation of social media companies, auditing elections, and securing databases and other systems.
