Crippling Cyberattacks, Disinformation Top Concerns for Election Day

Abstract:

With the 2020 U.S. Presidential Election approaching, the threat of cyberattack looms over, with already multiple instances of foreign persistent threat actors attacking voter registration sites and other election-related resources weeks before the election.

The biggest threats include ransomware and disinformation, especially after election results are tabulated. Local municipalities across the U.S. have been working hard to beef up their cyber defenses, especially since the alleged interference in the 2016 election, but there are still many possible vulnerabilities that can be exploited.

This article summarizes some of these threats, and assesses the level of preparation as the election approaches.
