COVID-19 and What It Means for Cybersecurity

Abstract:

COVID-19 has revealed the weaknesses in our cybersecurity protections at a time when there is no time to fix them. It has also made them more pronounced and widespread as many hastily deployed networks and devices pop up with lower security standards offer tempting targets. While we may not have time to address all the concerns now, we should before the next crisis.
Healthcare was already headed towards a system of providing you care at home and COVID-19 accelerated this with telehealth. This is an important area for cybersecurity since the security of electronic care devices can be a life or death situation, and it is harder to secure them when they have to communicate across unknown networks to the care providers. Inside the hospital it is much easier to secure them on a secure, known network.
