Cloud-hosted supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA)

Abstract:

This National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) article focuses on organizations considering a shift to cloud-hosted Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems and how they should carefully evaluate cybersecurity risks. While acknowledging the potential benefits of cloud-hosted SCADA, the article emphasizes the importance of careful evaluation due to the inherent cybersecurity risks associated with critical OT (Operational Technology) infrastructure. SCADA systems play an important role in monitoring and controlling physical assets, making them prime targets for cyberattacks. Transitioning SCADA to the cloud significantly alters system management and security protocols. Cloud-hosted systems demand rigorous implementation of controlled and limited network access, and the NCSC emphasizes the importance of maintaining controlled and limited network access for cloud-hosted SCADA deployments.
