Asking the right questions to define government’s role in cybersecurity

Abstract:

In the same way that companies are responsible for their data and making sure it is stored and maintained in a cyber secure manner, countries and government officials are responsible for their country’s information and cyber security of it. This leads to the question of who should become responsible for a country’s cyber security. As far as we know, the best format to deal with this is to have a single entity in government to deal with cyber security. In the event of a breach, it is of utmost important to deal with it as quickly and efficiently as possible, and having a clear hierarchy of power can make the process quicker. This is because we can avoid having to ask different organizations for certain details or access to certain information.

We find that governments don’t have as large of a role in cybersecurity as the private sector. This is because private companies also have a large interest in keeping their cyber security maintained. It has been seen that countries such as Israel, which integrate the practices found in their private companies into their government’s cyber security have found success in doing so. We expect countries to look to their private companies for help in cyber security issues as most of them are well-protected.
