AI and Cybersecurity in Digital Warfare on the Korean Peninsula

Abstract:

As AI-driven cyber warfare becomes more prevalent, the Korean Peninsula has emerged as a key battleground in the digital domain. This article examines how North Korea leverages AI for cyber espionage, financial theft, and disruptive cyberattacks, while South Korea strengthens its defenses through AI-powered threat detection and response systems. The growing use of machine learning algorithms to automate attacks and evade detection raises concerns about the rapid evolution of offensive cyber capabilities. At the same time, South Korea’s approach highlights how AI can be used defensively to identify patterns in cyber threats and mitigate risks before they escalate. The article underscores the geopolitical implications of AI in cybersecurity, particularly in a region where tensions remain high and cyber threats have real-world consequences.
