AI and Cybersecurity: A New Era

Abstract:

Artificial intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing cybersecurity, serving both as a tool for defense and a vector for sophisticated attacks. Cybersecurity organizations are increasingly integrating AI with traditional tools to enhance threat detection and response. AI’s capabilities include accurately identifying actual attacks, minimizing false positives, prioritizing responses based on real-world risks, flagging suspicious communications, simulating social engineering attacks to uncover vulnerabilities, and rapidly analyzing incident-related data for swift threat containment. Conversely, cybercriminals are leveraging AI to automate and personalize social engineering schemes, expedite password hacking through improved algorithms, and create deepfakes—manipulated audio or visual content—to deceive individuals and organizations. This dual-use nature of AI underscores the necessity for continuous evaluation and enhancement of cybersecurity measures to protect personal and organizational data.
