5 ways to achieve effective cyber resilience

Abstract:

As the world becomes increasingly online- commercially, in terms of data, and just in general, protecting against malicious cybercrime becomes an issue more and more at the forefront. However, the landscape is constantly changing because of the digital technologies we have continuing to get better and better and so the responses to these more impactful cyberattacks have to become more sophisticated themselves and the best practices around this are constantly being updated. Having a cyber resilient business allows for a minimal disruption to normal day to day functioning of the business and can improve a companies standing not just on a technology front but in a consumer front with business that have good cyber resiliency practices increasing shareholder confidence and leading to increased market valuations for those companies. With this in mind, however, there are 5 main tips that the article covers to increase cyber resilience: 1. realizing that 100% cybersecurity is never attainable which means that you have to plan for these attacks, 2. anticipate and plan for the disruptions that will occur in order to respond in a manner that aligns with the organizational goals of the business, 3. building in cyber resilience to business practices by making sure the business is able to withstand a cyber attack and ensure the interests of stakeholders are protected and standards are maintained- this also involves talking to external partners to make sure businesses are prepared to interface with them when needed, 4. safeguard confidential information, and 5. learning from past incidents both those internally to the business and external. All these best practices will help increase an organization’s cyber resilience capabilities.
