What is Pegasus spyware and how does it hack phones?

Abstract:

The current article discusses the current known capabilities of a spying program that has been developed by a private Israeli company and has been successfully used. This is related to the tools used to attack or spy in a cyber domain. My argument is that the current program represents the equivalent of a pistol or rifle in the cyber domain. If we think about weapons as tools of warfare, created by professionals but that can be used by non-professionals in order to conduct warfare, then pegasus spyware would fit this description. A good question then would be, what should be the regulation of such software? There are obvious restrictions on people possessing different type of weapons, yet I’m not aware of any on a cyber weapon.
