Little Brother is the first of a series of novels written by renowned science-fiction writer Cory Doctorow, and tells the story of a group of teenagers who build technology to resist the oppressive surveillance of the Department of Homeland Security. This novel, and its sequels, have gained much acclaim, as they force the reader to come to terms with the infringements of privacy that encroach on our lives, all for the sake of security. The tension between these two ideals is palpable, and interlaced with detailed explanations of the history of surveillance, cybersecurity, privacy, anti-censorship, and many other narratives that have shaped the internet that we know today.
