The Dark Web and Cybercrime: Identifying Threats and Anticipating Emerging Trends

Abstract:

This article examines the evolution of cybercrime on the dark web, with a focus on crimeware-as-a-service (CaaS) and the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning by cybercriminals. Through a systematic literature review, the study finds that the dark web has enabled the commoditization of cybercrime, allowing even unskilled actors to access sophisticated tools and services. The integration of AI/ML has increased the scale and complexity of attacks, posing new challenges for organizations and risk management. The paper discusses how these developments have transformed cybercrime into a scalable ecosystem, emphasizing the need for proactive security strategies to counter emerging threats.
