Russian hackers infiltrated Ukrainian telecom giant months before cyberattack

Abstract:

The news article describes the details of the Russian attack on the Ukrainian telecom company Kyivstar, one of the largest telecom providers in Ukraine. The article points out that the attackers gained access to the system months before the actual attack occurred. The attack is believed to have been carried out by the Russian hacker group Sandworm, which has close ties to the Russian government. The attackers managed to delete data and some core elements of the system. Customer data may have been stolen due to the access the hackers gained, but there is no official confirmation of this. The system was restored shortly thereafter, but it resulted in severe economic losses and impacted air sirens, ATMs, banks, and connections.
