The increase in sophistication of cybercrime outpaces the ability for any government to respond. Alongside that, people around the globe are becoming increasing more interconnected with the digital space, with an overwhelmingly majority of Americans and Europeans accessing the internet daily, with that number increasing rapidly worldwide. With more points of vulnerabilities and increasing ability from bad actors to be able to exploit these vulnerabilities, data breaches are rapidly growing in occurrence. What was once considered intense is now the norm.
With slow government response and the increasing scale of the risks, individuals are beginning to worry more about data security and taking matters into their own hands. Surveys indicate that slowly, consumers are believing that those who should be responsible in protecting private data should be the individuals themselves, ultimately requiring a joint effort. Despite these beliefs however, individuals are not taking the necessary protections in ensuring their data is hard to breach.
