The article discusses Meta’s new experimental approach in developing their governance practices. Meta has used representative deliberation wherein they employ a ‘democratic’ process by choosing individuals of diverse demographics to gather input on policy discussions. Meta is said to apply a similar process on their policy development on generative AI. The author however highlights the shortcomings of Meta’s current approach including the lack of agency participants had in their interactions and the lack of direct interaction with decision makers. Ovadya notes that the process felt less democratic and felt closer to fit the purpose of collecting data.
