This paper delves into the cybersecurity vulnerabilities prevalent in space systems, from satellites to mission control centers, emphasizing the sector’s lag in cybersecurity compared to other high-technology domains. Despite the critical role of space systems in supporting various infrastructure sectors, they face unique challenges due to a confluence of factors including complex supply chains, prolonged system lifecycles, and a lack of stringent cybersecurity standards and regulations. The study highlights past cyberattacks on space systems and proposes robust security principles tailored for the space sector. These principles encompass both technical measures and policy frameworks aimed at enhancing the resilience of space systems against cyber threats.
