Fujitsu found malware on IT systems, confirms data breach

Abstract:

Fujitsu, a global IT service with approximately 120,000 employees and $23 billion in annual revenue, recently suffered a data breach. In March 2024, the company discovered malware on its systems, raising concerns about stolen customer data. Despite claiming no confirmed data loss, Fujitsu is notifying the Personal Information Protection Commission and is preparing to inform potentially impacted customers. This incident is particularly concerning due to Fujitsu’s size and a prior security breach in May 2021. The 2021 breach resulted in unauthorized access to sensitive government information and the theft of approximately 80,000 email addresses. The incident’s severity, particularly following the company’s 2021 security lapse, raised significant concerns. This event highlights the ongoing vulnerability of major IT companies and emphasizes the importance of robust data security measures.
