Why Is Cybersecurity Not a Human-Scale Problem Anymore?

Abstract:

In cybersecurity defense is harder than it is often made out to be. Within a business not only does your system have to be secure against Cyberattacks, every organization you work with also has to be secure. Within cyberspace there are an uncountable number of things both to attack and to attack with. A single breach doesn’t necessarily have to be the end. It can start with an unpatched vulnerability in your servers and lead to the theft of data from countless users. Since many people reuse passwords this breach in your network can lead to the hijacking of accounts on numerous other services.
Top Computer science programs are not adequately preparing their students for cybersecurity problems. Of the top 10 undergrad programs, none require cybersecurity courses. There are master’s degree programs, but they usually only focus on the basics of cybersecurity. Future computer scientists need to be prepared for the realities of cybersecurity in their field.
